There is something unique about being a last-minute invite to a wedding. If you're going as someone's plus one, you might not even know the couple, which could make for an awkward experience. Obviously, in an ideal world, you will have at least met the couple before their big day, but sometimes, you have no choice but to go in blind.

But what happens when you're the last-minute plus-one invite and you go in so blind that you don't even know what the couple looks like? What happens when you show up to the wedding but your phone is out of battery and you can't find your date but the ceremony begins and it's time for you to take a seat? What happens when halfway through said ceremony, you have the sudden epiphany that you are at the wrong wedding? Do you get up and try to see if the other wedding at the venue is the one where you're supposed to be? How exactly does one get out of this situation?

  • I will say that I do not have the guts that this guy had when he opted out of leaving. I probably would have waited until the ceremony ended and then dipped out as quickly as I could before it became too late to leave. I would not have the confidence to mingle with the other guests, eat their food, order a drink, and stay through dessert, like this guy did…

    Shakespeare824 • 2h ago I was at a wedding venue at a chapel-one of FIVE on an estate in Tennessee... and we could so easily have taken the wrong path to the wrong chapel and viewed the wrong wedding. We actually missed our turn at one point, but signage helped us get to the right place.

    It was a group of Black people having a fish fry. My family was doing the same, so I walked in. Started saying hello to people and giving hugs.

    It wasn't until I had a plate that I actually looked around. I didn't recognize a single person! I sat and ate, then went to the bathroom. I left and actually found my family a few doors down. The food was good though!
